 I just tried vi, which I don't normally use, and it doesn't exhibit this
 behaviour.  So maybe to be more precise, it's not nano at my CentOS, and
 it's not Terminal, but the combination of the two.  Change either of them
 for something else and it works.  The question is, is it one or the other
 or both that might need changing in some way.
