I can also highly recommend a local real estate agent, Ann Greathouse.
I would also suggest you hit the library and read the introductions to
each chapter of Franklin Toker's "Pittsburgh, an Urban Portrait". The
book discusses historic buildings in Pittsburgh, but it's organized
the way Pittsburgh is, by neighborhoods. Each chapter starts with a
few pages defining the boundaries of the neighborhood and its history.
I grew up in Pittsburgh and I found this book very useful.
