[hackpgh-discuss] New old compy to run the laser cutter?

So the laser cutter computer apparently celebrated its eleventh(?) birthday recently, and tends to be a slow and occasionally crashy piece of junk. If anyone wants, I have an old gaming computer mobo, processor and RAM I would happily donate, which should be a significant upgrade (Phenom II x965 processor, 8 gigs of ram IIRC). If people are interested I would be glad to figure out how to rebuild the laser cutter compy around it.

There's two potential problems: First, I don't think it will fit into the current laser cutter computer's case. We'd have to acquire a larger one somewhere (at least ATX sized, IIRC). Second, it's a bit of a power hog, so we might need a new power supply (400W should be plenty). New, that's probably $130 of parts; used, maybe $50 or less, depending on what I can dig up at Goodwill. Are people interested?

Simon
