what you need depending on what your making, like mask, head, manequin wall
plaques, trinket box with lid etcetera.
wallpaper paste or glue.
strips of newspaper, half an inch wide and two inches long approximately.
p v c glue, this dries like varnish and is glue also.
art paint.
balloon.
vaseline, this stops paper sticking dry to whatever you paper macheing to.
dish with rim, like soup or cereal bowl and a saucer or plate that will fit
nicely on top of your dish, the dish is going to be the trinket box and the
saucer or plate is going to be the lid.

to make trinket box with lid.
vaseline dish and saucer or plate.
with the wallpaper paste or glue, brush the paste or glue on both sides of the
newspaper strips and line the top of the dish and saucer, over lapping several
layers to form the thickness you desire, not too thick and not to thin that it
will not be strong enough, you need to use plenty of glue or paste to be able
to smoth it out and that the newspaper is completely absorbed, no paper showing
without glue, plastered in glue, but not sloppy, then with a few strips of
newspaper covered in glue or paste, make a ball the size of a fifty pence
piece and place it in the middle of your saucer or plate, this is your type of
handle of the lid, you can be as ornate as you like, you can design with the
newspaper strips that has plenty of glue or paste and squidgy into a mush and
make a shape like a butterfly or ladybird etcetera for the middle of your lid,
so that your lid will lift off the trinket box and look pretty, once done,
smothing out any ridges, then leave to dry.
when dry, lift your paper mache gently from the dish and do the same with your
plate or saucer paper mache lid.
paste or glue the edges of the trinket box and lid, as the edges will have
dried and fanned out a little, so we need to tidy the edges up and to do this
we fold gently more strips of newspaper that have been thouroughly glued or
pasted onto the edges, so that the fold is on the edge and gently smooth out
any ridges, then leave to dry.
when dry, paint and glitter top and bottom of trinket box and lid, try matching
same colour or colours to trinket box and lid so that they match and then leave
to dry.
next brush top and bottom with p v c glue and leave to dry.
when dry, stick some jewels, diamontes, sequins etcetera and leave to dry.
when dry, put your lid on the trinket box and send for gift for me lol, joking,
display on your dressing table or send to friend or make them for charity shop.

to make mask, manequin wall plaque or head, just do the front half of the
balloon for the mask and manequin wall plaque and all over the balloon for the
head.
blow up a balloon.
vaseline all over the balloon.
glue or paste both sides of the strips of newspaper and spread several layers
over the balloon, smooth out any ridges, then with several strips of newspaper
that are glued or pasted, mushy up and make the shape of a nose and weld or
squidgy it to the balloon, do the same for the eyebrows and other features, can
make it pretty or scary, by making warts, pointed chin, pointed nose, when
created desired face, leave to dry.
when dry, burst the balloon and throw balloon in the bin.
if making the mask or plaque, you need to glue or paste the edges that may be
fanned out, then glue or paste more folded strips of newspaper and smooth onto
the edges so that the fold is on the outside, to make a nice clean edge, then
for the mask make two holes where the elastic will go, then leave to dry.
when dry paint and glitter as desired and leave to dry.
once dry, brush all over using p v c glue and leave to dry.
for the mask, thread elastic thread through the holes of mask, tie and cut to
length needed.
for the head, you could make a paper mache stand and while both still wet,
before painting, mould the head to the stand.
for the manequin wall plaque, you could paint this in squidgly black and white
spirals and sequin, glitter and jewel the plaque and hang on wall.
whatever you make, enjoy and have fun.
