Very interesting that Carol, very proud of you to tackle something like that. I
was on 4 ten committees for ten years and setup a gardening club for the blind
about six years ago and then I retieard but it still going. We came second in
the country three years ago. The Garden In Bloon compertision. We won five top
awards over the years. so I hung up my gabble when Winnie died. I haven't got
the heart for it now. But all the ten women who were on the committee decided
to meet once a month to have a meal and catch up. You know me, can't shake them
off. Hehehehe.

You Said.

Good evening all
Will tell you now about my club me and my x boyfriend ran .
Well back in 2003 well before we started our magazine up.

Eric and I used to go to a Methodist church called
the cuchuth methodist church
We got to know the rep there not sure if i spelt that right means some one who
runs small churches like that
anyway,he was called
Michael he was talented too had a guitar played it in church.
One day we got talking to him over coffee at one of his coffee mornings Michael
ask us what do we do in week.
We just said nothing as we are bored to tears
How ever,Michael asked us if we would like to start a little club up in spare
room in his methodist church.
We were flabergasted so we ask him what does a club involved.
He explained to us that first of all you need a room that has facilities such
as a kitchen big room enough space with table and chairs
so he then goes on to say
his spare room is never in use.
Michael told us that its got 4 square table 4 chairs to each table that take
ups 16 people
anyway,he said obviously need sighted volunteers to do the sandwiches and cups
of tea or coffee and I can already provide you with two volunteers marjoie and
joan wow this was getting interested
So Michael asked us to go away and have a very good think about it and let him
know in a weeks time
Eric and i had a good chat over it.
Guess what!
we both decided on it.
Anew adventure to come wow
Went back to Michaels fortnightly coffee morning in methodist church but
couldn't talk to him untill after he was free after all lots of public in there
So we waited oh wow had our first meeting with Michael and his two volunteers
marjorie and joan met them has long chat.
What our next step was to make posters for members
but guess what eric and i decided on both deafblind members so in other words
deafblind or just deaf or just blind or partially sighted
We got to work on it wow very difficult believe me.
We got posters made for us at a libruary near us
they made us a dozen posters
on poster it says

How would like to join our new deafblind club at culchuth meithodist chuch
manchester please ring eric mooney on bla bla
so i put posters in my Doctors clinic colleges and our morrisons and our
julei's school and post office
After 6 month of getting impatient we finally got 4 deafblind members.
horray great start
so got the room ready Michael told us the room is free now so we chose Tuesdays
from 11am to 2pm to see how it goes first

Betty was profoundly deaf her husband just blind .
margaret totally blind had guide dog called jerry .
and finally ken totally blind .
Oh it was great know only 4 but it was a start
Marjorie and joan gave kichen good clean made sandwiches
cuppa then week after another 2 started wow
derik totally blind and may old lady deaf and blind she was 80 bless her ah .
Michael was impressed 6 already
anyway months later 3 joined wow that was 9 then another two 11 by this time
We all had a big meeting derik voluntterd to be a treasurer he used to be
accontant in his younger days
my eric was chairman
now got chairman and treasurer guess who was fund raiser?
yes me wow exciting
Michael tol me and eric that All I need to do is make letters out on computer
and get them primted off post out to shops and stores after few weeks great
success
got donations coming in wow
couldn't believe it.
We bought new kettle jug,new mugs and plates and side plates and knifes and
falks and serviettes .
great start
So one day on the tuesday one of volunteers Joan brought two boxes of blind
raised dots dominoes in she called them out
prizes were packet of biscuits or packet of kit kats we got ham or cheese or
corn beef sandwishes and mugs of tea or coffee
My mum donated box of tea bags at that time and erics mum donated large jar of
coffee.
One member margaret donated us tin of biscuits
After that we got new volunteer from outside
she was called ann
oh this was wonderful 11 members 3 volunteers
Near christmas two more members joined so now 13 oh that was so exciting.

At christmas we planned a christmas party for them all oh it was lovely my mum
brought mince pies in and eric's mum made a christmas cake
we had sausage rolls mixed sandwiches crips cakes minced pies and Michael
played his guitar for us all we sand christmas songs to the guitar
That club went on for two years.
oh was great
then closed down the church in late 2006
shame really
hope you liked my article about my blind club
oh it was so sad when it closed down
nice times in there
Take care now
Love Carol x.x.x.x.
