The Dubai International Awards for Best Practices, jointly sponsored by the Dubai Municipality and UNCHS (Habitat) and supported by a global network of partners and affiliates, recognizes initiatives focused on improving living conditions on a sustainable basis. The submission process for 2002 awards and for inclusion in the next edition of the database is now open. If you have or know of a project that should be considered for a best practices award and inclusion in the database - in housing, economic development, social services, production and consumption patterns, infrastructure, communications and transportation, land-use management, urban and regional planning, and/or another relevant category - please see the submission guidelines at: http://www.bestpractices.org Submissions in architecture and urban design are especially encouraged. The database is a powerful too for analyzing current trends, networking, and researching capacity-building, technical cooperation and policy. Urban planners, policy makers, city managers, community leaders, researchers and the media are invited to make use of the information contained in the Best Practices database. 31 January 2002: Deadline for submissions requesting substantive feedback on compliance with criteria or reporting format; 31 March 2002: Deadline for receipt of Submissions for consideration for the 2002 Award and inclusion in Best Practices database. ********************************************************************** Ellen M.
