Hi Mike. I don't have cash to attend one of these but will suggest around the St. Paul and Minneapolis area and also Marine on the St. Croy. There is lots of open country around that region still, and once stayed on a foundation there. Unfortunately I don't think they exist any more. It was a thousand acre site, with many lakes and so on. We stayed in several lodges for a convention, conference. Cannot recall the name of the foundation since this was in the mid eighties. There's still a lot of walking area farmland left, and there is the Mall of America, and also Minneapolis a great city as well as pleasant walks through St. Paul good for guide dog with my experience there.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] thinking about WayFun 2009

Happy holidays to all our WayFun friends and families.

We have a great tradition of WayFun trips, starting in 2003 in Volcano, Ireland and Scotland in 2004, Maine in 2005, Napa Valley in 2006 and British Columbia in 2007.

My concept of the West England walking tour kind of fizzled in 2008. Only Bob and Sue Sweetman did the trip. Clearly, initiating small groups was not something anyone wanted to do.

I have the "last minute travel" concept I have not given up on yet but for now, we will give some thought to another group adventure in 2009. Please send us your feedback either on the WayFun or GPS-Talk lists.

I will start the discussion by mentioning our top locations from previous emails. Alaska seems to be of great interest. It is on the expensive side and it also would tend to be a very organized trip as opposed to the more random approach we have favored in our other trips.

Italy and Spain have also been of great interest. With our friends at Code Factory in the Barcelona area, Spain would be a good pick.

We haven't mentioned New Zealand in the past because we didn't have maps. Now we do and it would be an amazing place to explore. Because of the reverse seasons, we would have to go between December and March to have good weather. It would also be on the expensive side although I thought of seeing if we could do family stays rather than staying in hotels in order to reduce the overall cost and to give more of a local experience. I have been there numerous times and it is a fascinating and beautiful country.

We have also kicked around locations in the heartland of the U.S. and I am sure there are some great locations. If anyone has a favorite, let me know.

So, as you make your plans and resolutions for 2009, think about a WayFun adventure.

Mike
