A few comments were made about devices not functioning well in very cold weather. Long before the temperature is too cold for a Braille display, one's fingers become too numb to read anyway. There are some work arounds like having a coat or sweat shirt with one of those pass through pocketswhere your hands can meet in the middle. I put my PK in there and it helps alot.The truth is, when it is that cold out, one minimizes the amount of time youare outside anyway.Same thing goes for rain. You can cover up your device but the best strategyis to get out of the weather as quickly as possible.The comment was made about not needing GPS in one's living room. That may betrue for getting around your house or someone else's house, however the virtual exploration mode can be very useful, especially when sitting in aliving room as I am right now on Orcas Island, 77.2 miles line of sight from Seattle Washington. I know this of course because of my GPS. As we determinewhere to go today, I am learning the streets and businesses on the islandand how far they are from me and from each other. I am also tempted to take a boat to Friday Harbor as it is the next island over, just a few miles awayaccording to my GPS. As I recall, there is an island around here called Blind Island. I should see what that is all about. It is quite enjoyable to be listening to NPR in this toasty living roomwhile researching and planning our exploration today using my GPS. Using GPSis partially about using it on the go and a lot about using it in virtual mode or within a vehicle.
