The serial Earthmate will begin acquiring satellites even if the BrailleNote is turned off.

When I got my Earthmate the manual information told me that I should turn on
the receiver, but the receiver won't begin to acquire satellites until the
GPS application is loaded on the Braille Note. Is this correct? Will my
serial Earthmate receiver acquire satellites whether my note taker is on or
not?

Richard,

The PK sequence is different from other devices because of the way the Blue
Logger receiver is accessed.

You are correct that the Magellan or the serial Earthmate receivers can be
acquiring satellites without the BrailleNote even on or the GPS application
loaded.
