Hello Paul,
Actually this was also the beheviour I intented form the trayicon: all
automatique. Donwload should start as soon as new episodes are found without
any user interraction.
I noticed as well it works if you have the option "check for update at startup"
enabled, but it doesn't for periodical updates.
It shouldn't be difficult to fix, I'll try to have a look, but I'm quite busy
this week, so maybe after 0.10.4 release.

Aha, this is my misunderstanding of how this is intended to operate, I
was expecting to just leave gPodder running in the tray and it
automatically updating the cache and downloading episodes without any
user intervention! Perhaps this should go on the TODO list!
