Some of you were blessed to know Lisette, as I was. She was a talented
singer, teacher, braille music transcriber and author who was a tireless
advocate for braille music literacy and a contributor to our lists over the
years. She was one of the first blind musicians I met during my first visit
to London back in November, 1998. I am so pleased that she published her
book, Focus on Braille Music, which has no doubt helped many readers in the
UK and around the world. I remember encouraging her to write the book for
readers of braille music produced according to the standards published by
the Braille Authority of the United Kingdom.

My heart and my prayers are with Lisette's husband, Neil, and all of her
loved ones. May she rest in peace.

It is with deep sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of Lisette
Wesseling on Monday after a four-year battle with cancer. She was just 44
years old.
Lisette was a beautiful soprano. She studied in her home of New Zealand
before moving to Melbourne and then London to take up a scholarship at the
Guild Hall School of Music. Lisette was a very skilled braille music
specialist, both as a transcriber of her own material and working both with
vocal, piano and all formats. She wrote a book entitled Focus on Braille
music and also taught for many years. Lisette released a CD in 2013 which is
available online and I'll provide details if you'd like them.
Lisette's funeral will be held in Wellington, New Zealand on Monday. It will
be streamed online. Details are provided below.
