I. WYRD SISTERS OPENS THIS WEEK

The second GMU Players studio show of the year, "Wyrd
Sisters" opens this week in Black Box Theater (Performing
Arts Building Room 101).

There will be a preview performance Thursday, Nov. 21st
at 8 pm, with the "official" opening on Friday, Nov. 22nd.

Evening performances will be Friday, Nov. 22 and
Saturday, Nov. 23 at 8 pm. Matinees will be Saturday, Nov.
23 and Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 pm. The show is expected to run
a little under 2 1/2 hours, including a ten-minute
intermission.

All studio shows are free, so there are no tickets.
Seating is first-come, first-serve. Arrive early to be sure
of getting in! Even with the crowds at "Antigone," everyone
who arrived by the time the house opened (about 30 minutes
before showtime) got a seat. Friday and Saturday nights
will be the most crowded, so come to the Thursday night
preview or one of the matinees if you can. Remember, "Wyrd
Sisters" will run for one weekend only!

"Wyrd Sisters" is a relatively new (1996) British comedy
that satirizes Shakespearean theater (in modern language),
especially Hamlet and MacBeth. Magic, murder and mischief
are afoot in the tiny mountain kingdom of Lancre, and three
witches must set aside their differences and work together
to defeat the evil duke and duchess and save the kingdom
(and possibly their own necks).

"Wyrd Sisters" would be rated PG or PG-13 if it was a
movie. There are two deaths on stage, but no blood or gore.
Sexual content is limited to one kiss and some innuendo. In
short, it's safe to bring parents (and older children) to
the show.

Black Box has been set up in a deep thrust configuration
for "Wyrd Sisters." There are risers on three sides of the
performance space, but only very limited space for floor
seating. If you require seating at floor level for any
reason, please email director Jim Maiwurm at
jmaiwurm@xxxxxxx ahead of time so we can reserve space.
Advance notice will also help in securing other special
accomodations, such as lighting for sign-language
interpretation.

Strike for "Wyrd Sisters" will follow the Sunday
matinee, starting about 4:30 pm. If you need tech hours or
just want to help, please come by! Also, anyone interested
in house managing, ushering, or concessions please contact
Caiti Rodel at crodel369@xxxxxxxxxx

For more information and directions, see the Theater
Department web site at:

Disclosure: GMU Players Secretary Jim Maiwurm (who writes
these emails) is also the director of "Wyrd Sisters." He
may be somewhat biased about what a hilarious show this
will be and about how everyone should come and see it.

Auditions will be early in December, with performances
in mid-February.

    More information TBA

Note that Vagina Monologues is an independent
production not directly sponsored by the GMU Players or the
Theater department. Also note that this will be the third
annual production of Vagina Monologues at Mason, and
performances the last two years have been *very* well
received.

-----------------------------------
If you have information you think would be of interest to
the GMU theater community, please send it to
jmaiwurm@xxxxxxx for consideration for this newsletter.
When the semester ends, there will be lots of theater folk
around with free time, and I know there will be worthwhile
productions in the D.C. area to see and work on in December
and January...
