Dear All, Book Review: CODE Reading -- The Open Source Perspective As a software developer most of the time, we spend adding new features or functionalities in the existing code, written by somebody else. I realized this after I joined Industry. Till date I hardly written any code from scratch completely after I entered corporate environment. In schools, colleges and Universities, all they teach us is how to code using programming languages like C, C++ etc. Nobody teach us how to read other's code. Infact that is what more important in a practical point of view. The following book which I am reading right now for the last 2 days, is exactly teaches us How to read other's code? I should say, all the software developers must learn this art. So if you find the time, go and get a copy of this book and read it by all means. CODE Reading The Open Source Perspective by Diomidis Spinellis ISBN: 0-201-79940-5 Addison Wesley/Pearson Education, 2003. The author uses numerous real world examples to show us how to identify good & bad code: how to read it, what to look for, and how to use this knowledge to improve our own code. Judgement: It is worth spending time to read this book in its entirety. -- mks -- http://www.mksarav.org/blog/blog.html ------------------------ Yahoo!
