John...Heinz mentioned to me at Steering that he thought the newest Mac OS had a built in translator for Windows programs and/or that there are apps that allow it to read and "play" Windows programs without having the Win OS installed. Do you know anything about the following, which I found with a Google search? 1. http://www.codeweavers.com/products?gclid=CMGOoZuhoqACFQ8bawodeU9BZg - they say you don't need to have Windows OS to run with their app. 2.From http://www.macwindows.com/ News Update March 2 CrossOver 9 improves Win apps on Macs, adds new UI, simplifies setup Tuesday, March 2, 2010 Today, CodeWeavers shipped CrossOver 9, a major new version of the software that enables Windows applications to run on Macs and Linux without using Windows itself. Version 9 includes a new user interface that simplifies the installation of Windows software directly in Mac OS X. CodeWeavers said that, in many cases, users can install a Windows application with a single click. It also improves support for Microsoft Office for Windows and Outlook, among others. ----- Original Message ----- From: John King To: ggcsquicksig@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, March 04, 2010 10:38 PM Subject: [ggcsquicksig] Re: Message to Eddy Wu You have to have a copy of Windows to install in order to run it in a virtual machine on a Mac. You also have to buy the virtual machine software if you don't want to use the more primitive Mac Boot Camp which requires rebooting to run Windows. If you have several Windows programs that you need to run, then buying a copy of Windows is cost effective. If you only wanted to run Quicken 2010, then the cost would be pretty high since you need a full version of Windows to install, not an upgrade.
