While looking at recent pictures of Phoenix, I wondered at the length of the 
shadows (bearing in mind the 68 deg N latitude). Then the thought that the 
angle of the sunlight will vary by ~48 deg with the season and this made me 
aware that I cannot recall ever seeing data on the current season. Given the 
opportunity, I'd have thought that a summer landing would be preferred but of 
course launch windows are not synchronised with Mars seasons. Do you have 
knowledge of the current northern hemisphere season? I did look quickly but 
didn't get any hits.
 
Finally, the pictures shown so far do not appear to show the solar cell arrays 
set at an angle to the south which surprised me. Comments?
