 "The current average lifespan of a satellite in geosynchronous orbit is 7 
years; after 13 years in orbit, the failure rate is 98%."

  Why do they fail after only seven years?
  With no friction in space they should keep orbiting for 100 years. 
  Perhaps they are stationary and the vertical thruster fuel runs out after 
  7 years?
