"His justice cannot sleep forever"because he was appalled by the evil of American slavery. We thank God that this evil has been abolished in the western world. Jack. But Jesus never spoke against slavery . Most slaves in America were worse of after being freed .. The early Christians had slaves, but were freed under Christian conditions which ensured they became better off. ie like being fed to the lions and things. Modern Christians never can understand what I just stated about being better off by being martyred.. Jack ----- Original Message ----- From: The Christian Institute To: jack.lewis@xxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, May 12, 2008 5:20 PM Subject: "His justice cannot sleep forever" "His justice cannot sleep forever" Thomas Jefferson said: "I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever." Notes on the State of Virginia, 1853, page 174-175 Jefferson said this because he was appalled by the evil of American slavery. We thank God that this evil has been abolished in the western world. But gross inhumanity continues today. If William Wilberforce were alive now, many believe that the campaigner would turn his attention to fighting abortion. In 1837, four years after the abolition of slavery, Parliament toughened up the law on abortion. It legislated to require that all abortions be considered as murder, no matter how far developed the foetus. Previously, although all abortion was illegal, the crime of murder only applied to "quickened" babies - those beyond 16 weeks' gestation. In 1967 abortion was formally legalised for the first time since the Roman Empire. There are now 200,000 abortions in our country every year. Some 98% of these abortions are for entirely social reasons. These are not 'hard cases' - there's no issue of the child being handicapped and no threat at all to the mother's life. Social reasons account for the overwhelming bulk of the 6.7 million abortions carried out since 1967. At The Christian Institute, we believe that abortion, along with destructive experiments on human embryos, is amongst the greatest sins of our age. God is just and, as Jefferson observed, "His justice cannot sleep forever". We thank God for the truly remarkable victory to protect Gospel freedom that was won in recent days. Many Christians had made the issue of free speech a matter for earnest prayer. The Lord has had mercy. Can I urge you to pray also for the embryology Bill? The key votes are expected on Monday and Tuesday next week, 19 and 20 May. Please do join with us in praying: a.. That God will have mercy on our land b.. That MPs will receive influential letters from their constituents c.. That MPs will vote to restrict abortion and experiments on human embryos d.. That the truth will be heard in the media and in Parliament Yours in Christ, Colin Hart Director The Christian Institute Registered office: The Christian Institute, Wilberforce House, 4 Park Road, Gosforth Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8DG The Christian Institute is a company limited by guarantee, registered in England as a charity.
