Robert, I am lost, too. If you split numbers like you suggest, then you can read into the resulting string of characters anything that you want. For instance, 6 6 6 ==> 1 8 ==> 9 1 8 ==> 8 1 (reading from right to left, as in Hebrew) ==> 9 x 9 So from 6 6 6 we get to 9 9 9, which is the emergency services number in Britain. Perhaps I should call the police and report the Beast? I am even more convinced of my "reasoning" (cough) when I see that 9 9 9 ==> 2 7 ==> 9. So 666 = 9 and 999 = 9. Therefore 9 must be divine (why, it even rhymes)!! The number 666, refers to something specific. It cannot be broken down into positional constituents (they are not even mathematical constituents, but repetitions) and be said to have any meaning other than in the eyes of the one who has played with the number. Numbers do not "exist" in their own right. Even "real" numbers are imaginary, even though "imaginary" numbers are real. Well, enough playing on words (and numbers), you know what I am saying. He that hath understanding, let him count the number of the beast. For it is the number of a man: and the number of him is six hundred sixty-six. Are you saying that the DH interpretation is in error by 6 hundreds 6 tens and 6? Or are you importing alternative symbolisms? "..it is the number of his name.." defines a combination, rather than a repeated series.. Martin wrote: Here's my take: you believe that the count in Rev. 13:18 is of years. I don't. I see no support for it, nowhere, neither in any chronological measure provided in Revelation, nor in Daniel, nor in Jeremiah, and I'm intimately familiar with all the passages you keep quoting back to me. Allen wrote: ..I know and admit that Scripture does not states years but that is the point it does not state anything about how to count it It is silent on that mater it can only be understood once the "what" is known. When the what is known then and only then can how be deduced or understood from scritpure. The Apocalypse is full of symbolism, and the 666 that appears in 13:18 is no exception. Yet prima littera ? the literal or plain sense is always applied first, if possible. The Attic and Ionian Greek of the first century AD was a decimal but not positional number system. The Greek words (h)eksakosoi (h)eksakonta (h)eks [six hundred sixty six] would mean the same in any other order; they are separable and selfstanding: (h)eks (h)eksakosoi (h)eksakonta also means 666. Our Bible study leader, conversant in both Hebrew and Greek, suggests the following: Write 666 as 6 6 6 to emphasize the plain meaning according to Biblical typing, a trio of sixes. What is usually interpreted today as 666 in decimal base ten is recognized as repeating a curse - hex! - 3 times for emphasis, just as we do today. The number of the name of the beast is literally a group of three symbols 6! 6! 6! denoting Evil! Evil! Evil!, using numeric types. The types for 3 and 6 are given below; 7 is given only as counterpoint to 6, which falls one short of seven?s perfection. ???? THREE: The threes of the Bible represent triads of completeness, subject to God's will. Sometimes it is a triad of good: The divine Trinity Exodus 19:1 - 20:17 (where God expresses His divine will, in the form of His commandments, on the "third day" of the "third month"). The trinity of blessing is grace, mercy and peace. sometimes of evil: Three days in the tomb Revelation 16:13 (where the three-ness of the "unclean spirits" - demons - indicates not that they are in accord with God's will, but rather opposed to it). Genesis 22:4 (where Abraham sees the place where he is to obey God's will by slaughtering his son on the third day) Matthew 26:37-44 (where, three times, Jesus' prayers for possible relief from His passion are unanswered by a silent Father; the Father's triple silence, confirming that the status quo -- the passion awaiting Christ -- is God's will); the devil, the Antichrist and the false prophet. the world, the flesh and the devil. SIX Evil; enemy, imperfection, incomplete There are six days of the week not comprising the Lord's Day, that is, not Sabbath days. Proverbs 6:16 - where we are told that there are "six" things which the Lord hates. Genesis 1:31- we are told that pre-atonement Man was created on the "sixth" day Samuel 21:20 - where an enemy of Israel has six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. SEVEN Perfect, complete, ubiquitous. This number is used to represent God's complete and perfect provision both in Christ and in His dealings with men. Genesis 2:2 where God completes His creative work on the seventh da). Throughout the book of Revelation seven indicates the perfect character of God, His perfect integrity, equity and justice in all His dealings with men. Revelation 16:17 - where God's voice announces, "It is done" when the seventh angel pours out his bowl Zechariah 3:9 - The seven "eyes" describe the perfect omniscience of the Holy Spirit . Job 5:19 - where evil can not harm him who is faithful to God even in the event of the "seventh trouble" to confront the faithful person -- he is "perfectly" immune. The seven days make a perfect week. Robert --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail is the world's favourite email. Don't settle for less, sign up for your freeaccount today.
