At Barnes and Noble in Florissant you didn't even get to sniff the book until it was paid for; they were all behind the counter. We had line number 259 and were home by 1:00 AM, so not too bad. We called my sister-in-law who was at Borders in South County (?) and she had the book in her had before paying for it. She read the first page to us while Kyd was getting the "Dark Mark" painted on her face.

I confess: a Post-Dispatch photographer caught me
reading in the "pay" line at Borders this morning
(around 12:20am). I'm only a few chapters in but life
intrudes. It would be rude to read at the picnic,
right?
