A BIG point is being missed in all of this-- I quote from below: *As of April
16, 2003, the US Fish and Wildlife Service has determined that geocaching is
not a compatible use for areas they provide funding for.* If this is true, my
understanding is every state receives money from this source for their
respective Department of Natural Resources. Guess what is under the umbrella of
Missouri's Department of Natural Resources? Missouri State Parks. It's not just
so-called natural areas. If our US bureaucracy can control our state government
this easily, we may soon be limited to virtual caches almost everywhere. Have a
nice day. The Hairy Hillbilly P.S. Why do we not belong in so-called *natural*
areas? They are some of the most scenic areas in the state. It seems
contradictory...a lot like the wilderness mentality...we're going to protect
this area forever...oh, by the way, you can't go see it. I'm guessing that on
average 20 geocachers a year will go and find these out-of-the-way caches. What
is the impact of those visitors? None. Geocaching is low impact. Period.
Over-regulatory bureaucracies that have no accountability to anyone anywhere
s**k. Period. I'll shut up now before all my anarchist tendencies become so
readily apparent.
