Mike, sure am glad that I was able to talk some sense in to you. Bernie

to the original plan, Meet at Denny's at 5am, drive straight to Decatur,
cache like crazy and then hit the other caches on the way back if time
permits. I can do the others next week. I think we will still have plenty of
time to cache with the locals. I would like to hit the Mt. Zion caches
sometime during the day. Mike Jim Bensman wrote: - It looks like the snow
will not get up to Decatur, but you never know. It is likely to be extremely
cold so everyone will need to make sure they bring warm clothing. We will
need to follow the snow closely to make sure it does not give us problems
getting out of town and getting up North. If we have snow problems. a
possibility is to go next week or leaving latter in the morning to let the
roads get in better shape. As to how to get up there, we have some choices.
The original plan was to leave at 5 take the Interstate and go straight
thereand start caching at day break. Mike has suggested cutting across and
going through Taylorville and caching in the dark on the way. I've done all
but two of the ones Mike has suggested. The ones close to the highway are
allpretty easy and should not be a problem in the extreme cold and dark.
There are 3 in Sangchris State Park. The park may be closed this time of the
day. One is not that far >from the main road. (I have not done it-the gate
was locked when I tried it.) If you can get to it, it is supposed to be by
the parking lot. So it would not be a problem. The other two in the park are
a ways out of the way and a hike in some fields, wetlands, and forests. I
would not recommend doing them in the extreme cold and dark. The 2 in
Taylorville are real easy and can be done at night with no problem. The 2
Mike has suggested in the park SE of Taylorville are a bit out of the way.
The park may or may not be open before sunrise. One is a real easy drive by.
The other is a 3 part multi. Parts 1 and 2 are easy micros. Part 3 is off in
the woods away in an area with a very heavy infestation of sticker bushes.
Itwas rough in the daylight. I would not recommend it in the dark. So if we
went via Taylorville, I would recommend not doing these 2. Mike's reasoning
for doing these on the way up is so we have more time in the afternoon with
the local cacher. If that is the goal, one possibility is to leave latter.
This may be more attractive with the weather forecast. So Jeff and I need to
hear what those going would prefer to do. Perhaps we can make the final
decision when we leave. Mike has also raised concern about too big of a
groupand the possibility of splitting up into smaller groups. But that would
seem to moot the issue of the local wanting to cache with us. What does
everyone think of this? Jim Bensman "Nature Bats Last"
