Has anyone thought about sending a press release about either of our CITO events? A little publicity is a good way to raise awareness of the sport, and our efforts to "improve" the parks. The article below appeared in an Ontario, Canada, newspaper. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Belleville - Geocaching association will clean up East Bayshore Trail 04.13.04 "Geocaching" is a sport that mixes computers, satellites and the love of the outdoors. It is the treasure hunt of the new millennium. It is enjoyed by thousands of individuals and families in over 190 countries. The idea involves a hidden container or "cache" which can be located using global positioning system (GPS) co-ordinates. Members search for the cache. The finder takes something from the container and leaves something for the next player, returning the cache to its hiding place. Participants also believe the environment should be kept clean. When out searching, geocachers also pick up trash. Special events are often held called "Cache In, Trash Out" which focus on cleaning up a section of the community. The geocachers of Hastings-Prince Edward County will hold an event on the morning of April 17 with a dual purpose. Participants will be cleaning up the Bayshore Trail as well as demonstrating the sport of geocaching to all who are interested. The group will meet at 9 a.m. at Meyers Pier for coffee and demonstrations. Everyone is welcome. Pam Tribble
