The 2009 School Year started in Chacraseca in February and the ongoing
commitment of JustHope's Donors and Partners could be seen in big ways!
- Several teachers had new teaching supplies and resources thanks
to gifts from JustHope Supporters and Partners!
- Music classes started again at Maryknoll school where last year
JustHope Partner *United Church of the Valley in Murrieta, CA* birthed a
music and arts program by donating instruments and teaching both students
and teachers how to play them. They created resources for an
each-one-teach-one way to make the program locally sustainable.
*UCV*will be returning in June with more music and art support!
- And this year almost 80% of the children in Chacraseca are attending
school thanks to scholarships provided by JustHope Partner *Church of the
Beatitudes in Phoenix, AZ* and by Chacraseca's other solidarity partners
in New York, Alabama, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.
$20 buys classroom supplies for one teacher; $40 sends one child to primary
school for one year; $160 sends one youth to high school for a year; $600

Bread)*
Six women in the poor coffee-picker community of Santa Emilia, Nicargua have
been dreaming of bread. Not just for themselves and their families, but for
their community. And they have named their dream "Milagro de Belen."
Belen means "House of Bread" in Hebrew and the dream of these six women is
to build their own "house of bread" - a small bakery (panderia in Spanish)
where they can produce a few simple varieties of bread each day to sell in
their community. Their community will benefit from having fresh bread
locally available, and the women will earn a few dollars each month to
supplement their families' meager incomes. They have almost completed their
business plan -- the first one any of them have ever created -- and a *JustHope
Support Partner* has provided half the funding they will need to get started
($2000). Now they are waiting on the rest of the miracle...

*Clinic Support Grows*
It was a frightening and difficult time when Chacraseca received word last
fall that their oldest solidarity partner for the Community Clinic would no
longer be providing the $500 a month that both paid the doctor's salary and
provided $100 in medication support to the Community Pharmacy. But, *JustHope
Partners and Supporters *are stepping up to fill the gap. A year-end gift
from a JustHope *Doctor in Solidarity,* covered January and February. And
$350 a month has been pledged toward continuing these VITAL services.
As Community Leader, Noe Arauz, said *"Without health care, none of the
other projects matter!"* To pledge Clinic Support for 2009 or for more

- Dr. Ivan Melendez, part of JustHope's Doctor's in Solidarity
Partnership, will be leading a medical support delegation to Chacraseca this
summer. Doctor's in Solidarity work with and under the direction of Dr.
Daisy Reyes, Chacraseca's doctor, to provide support and resources to the
clinic and community health bridgade.
- Dr. Boyd Shook, has designed and donated a medical records softward
program for rural health clinics, and a computer for Chacraseca's clinic!
March 2nd, he is traveling to Chacraseca to assist Dr. Reyes in converting
the clinic to the new system.
- JustHope Partners *Trinity UCC in Cheney, KS* continue their support
of the start-up clinic in Santa Emilia.
