Hello to all, especially those who attended the Dec. 3 meeting and had questions before we go ahead with authorizing $3K for NA water study. Here are the questions I/we framed for Mike who received them Friday and spoke with Dick, to Dick's satisfaction. One thing I liked was the caveat that after this expense of ours, no more of our money will go into the project unless others' monies are also in. Anyway, check in with Dick and/or Mike if you have any further specific questions. Be well. Here's a wrap up of some of the questions/concerns the group has for Mike before going forward authorizing the $3K study. Hola MIguel, We had our meeting last night and only about 8 were present. This happens this time of the year. Several topics were discussed, including our own budget/finance stuff, web site happenings and the NA/Telica water project, your email, the $3K study, etc. Everyone is very happy that you went to Nicaragua and made this water concern an important part of your trip; and together with Conchita have worked on this TElica Municipal Water Project rather than us just limiting us to the old well with the solar energy approach. But some questions arose as the discussion went on and I've been asked to communicate them to you. Here they are: 1. There's some confusion about how the study will take place if there's just a parcel of land. We don't know whether there is water available to test. Is there a well/hole in the ground on either/both of these prospective sites? Or is this land with no well? How would the study be executed if not? 2.What will the study tell us? I quoted from my notes from our chat yesterday repeating your words that one month after the study takes place there'd be an item by item report concerning cost, location, water info, quality, temperature, etc., but some still had questions about this. Actually, I'm not clear how water can be tested unless there is a well already there in existence. They just want confirmation that the study will tell us about the quality, quantity, cost, temperature, preliminary design, an estimate based on that preliminary design, etc., and does the study cover both sites? Also, when will design of the project be done and when are we going to receive it and when will we be asked for the money? 3. There was a question about money. People asked who is contributing to this study, if anyone, besides us, to what extent, and how much. Seems that with all the money required for this, and described in the estimate we're the first to be asked to put money in. Everyone trusts World Vision. Dick has spoken with their people on several occasions. No one knows the Telica govt. folks, nor do they know what is meant by la comunidad. Is this group "the people" of NA and other neighborhoods that are to receive water? If they have no money, how will that portion be paid, which is quite a large sum? I guess the issue centers on us being the ones taking a risk up front with money when we are the smallest entity, and whether or not the cost of the study could/should be split a few ways so if anything is lost, the loss is shared. Also it would show good faith among the participants. Also, how do we know Telica has/will have the money to finish the project? What if we put all our dough in and they don't and then somehow things get halted, work stops, they don't finish it off or come up with their share. Remember my Brooklyn Bridge idea. Maybe everyone should put their money in first, then we start with all parties knowing that everyone is in. Folks felt a little pressured to put this money in first, before anyone else put in any. Better for trust if all put some in, or all put their money into a pot/account first that we all had control over so all would know the resources are there to finish the job. These are the points that were discussed. I'm having electrical work done today and my power will be on and off, so better to call on the cell or try the home phone, but I'm going to keep the computer off til the electrician is finished. PW
