Yeah, who needs matching socks? Your feet don't care and aren't the socks for
them? Great quote and another stellar recap. I love how some of the
observations sound different out of context. For example, "aging
antioxidants". It is fair that antioxidants get old like the rest of us.

Subject: FRTM - recap 12 Nov 2020
Greetings Fellow Toastmasters,
Our toastmaster for the evening was our wonderful Katelynn Pau. Her theme was
thankfulness. We had one guest and 10 members. The word of the day was
Gratuitous; uncalled for, lacking good reasons. Given or done free of charge.
Speaker #1: Jonathan Kolber
Research methods. Life extension. Book two inches thick. Aging antioxidants.
Fresh fruit and vegetables enough? Adding genes, duplication leads to
immortality. Dietary supplements. C-60 olive oil Methylene Blue in small
doses.
Speaker #2: Alan Wong
I didn't have any notes for Speaker #2. I looked all over for it and I was
getting confused when I realized I was Speaker #2. I didn't write any notes on
myself. Is this the beginning of memory loss when I forgot I was a speaker?
USS Enterprise discovers female humanoid. Searching data warehouse of
inventory for appropriate greetings. While thinking, she turns around and asks
what are you looking at you weirdo? Red alert and warp speed away.
Table Topics master was our amazing Jennifer Dunne. Notable questions and
answers on being grateful.
1. Timothy Zhu: What have others done for you that your grateful for? After
SAT, which college? Engineer. Continuously getting better.
2. Revathy Sukumaran: What is taken for granted where you stop and think and
you are grateful for? Place I'm living in. Water People.
3. Luis Estrada: What opportunities you have that you are grateful for? Went
to Las Vegas in someone's place. I leaned a lot in Las Vegas class. Got my
picture in a magazine. Opportunity to laugh and learn from mistakes.
4. Jonathan Kolber: What material possessions do you have that you are
thankful for? Computer, LED lights in the house. Desk, reliable car, cat toy,
cat house. Oriental rugs, foam mattress, house, city we live in.
5. Minjun Zhao: What abilities do you have that you are grateful for?
Staying positive when obstacles and challenges are in front of me. No life is
easy. Choose different attitudes. How we deal with different things.
General Evaluator was our amazing Luis Estrada
Evaluator #1 Pattie Apple on Jonathan Kolber
One of your best speeches. Cited sources. Personal experience added meat to
the speech. Passionate and intense. Best gesture was describing a two inch
book using finger and thumb two inches apart.
Evaluator #2 Revathy Sukumaran on Alan Wong
Felt like watching a move. Good pace. Listing things. Good vocal variety.
Traveling in story and strong humor. Audience awareness?
Evaluator #3 Robin McIntosh on Katelynn Pau as tosatmaster.
Good job facilitating. Smooth transitions. Blouse and curtains blend together
which portrayed a pleasant picture. Put self out there. Spontaneous questions
and answers, worked out very well. Challenges. Small meeting. Challenge to
fill up the time. Suggest guilting officers into giving a speech. Facial tic?
Luis Estrada gave a good evaluation on all the evaluators. Call out to Robin
on a different role where there was no speech to evaluate but rather evaluating
Katelynn's role as toastmaster.
Call out to Minjun Zhao and Robin McIntosh for pulling double duty.
Ribbon Winners
Best Table Topics: Minjun Zhao and Jonathan Kolber
Best Evaluator: Revathy Sukumaran
Best Speaker: Alan Wong
Congratulations to all the ribbon winners. It was a small group and everyone
participated. Small group meetings are just as impactful as larger group
meetings.
What am I thankful for? My obvious and predictable answer is family. But I'm
also very grateful for the relationships I have in toastmasters. You see, you
are all family too.
A nice quote on thankfulness. "My socks may not match, but my feet are always
warm" ----- Maureen McCullough.
I appreciate all of you. Until next time I am your humble secretary.
