Greetings Fellow Toastmasters,
There were 11 members and one guest. The one guest was Yann our area majesty.
Luis Estrada was our toastmaster and his theme was what we loved about our
jobs. Luis loves his job because of his relationship with clients, it pays,
and his job helps to keep America beautiful.
Highlights from the evening
1. Lori High was our Grammarian and her WOD was IMPETUS.
2. Robin McIntosh great joke about a priest, a bear, two broken legs, and
Thank you Lord for this bounty that I am about to receive.
3. We had three outstanding speakers. First up was Ray Pezolt. 24 April
1980. Iran hostage situation. Neil Diamond Concert. Encore. Blue Spot
light. National Anthem. Respect. I've heard Ray give many speeches and there
are many that have been really good. Santa, DMV, but this one on Neil Diamond
is up there as one of my favorites. Next up was Pattie Apple giving a 20
minute speech on Census. Yes, that was not a typo. It was about 20 minutes
long but Pattie gave a great speech and the audience was enganged. And because
we were all tuned int her speech, it didn't feel like it was long at all. If
you think you don't want to know anymore about Census, too bad, I have more.
The 3rd speaker of the night was Jeff Stoll. China, Entire families loaded on
electric scooters, unleashing Chinese Grandmas, and ear wax. Jeff has also
given many speeches and this was by far, my favorite one. He was hilarious.
4. Kathleen Jewby was our table topics and she was amazing. The preparation
in setting up the cards. The thought provoking questions. Katelynn Pau's
question was Astronaut pros and cons. Con: Terrified of outer space. Pro:
the view. (that's a great answer).
Ribbon Winners. Congratulations to all the winners.
Best Speech: Ray Pezolt
Best Table Topics: Katelynn Pau
Best Evaluator: Dirk Kittredge
Final Thoughts for the day.
Toastmasters is mostly about the speeches. It's the main course and everything
else is appetizers and dessert. And the main course was amazing. Ray with an
emotional speech. Pattie with and educational and technical speech. And Jeff
with humor. It's amazing to me that a simple topic can be turned into a story.
And how we deliver that simple story resonates into our minds and stays with
us. Congratulations to all the speakers. Thank you for preparing the
speeches. Thank you for the great delivery. The main course was great and I
was no longer hungry. Not to take anything away from Colette Smith (great
General Evaluator), and Kathleen Jewby (table topics), and Luis Estrada for
toastmasters. The 2nd hour of dessert was really entertaining and I was beyond
full afterwards.
Quote by Jack Welch. Before you are a leader, success is all about growing
yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.
Until next week, I am your humble secretary.
