[frgeek-michiana] New volunteers?

Maribel told me she has two friends who would like to volunteer to obtain a FreeBox. Her friends are Hispanic and don't speak English, and Maribel would have to translate and supervise them.

Do we have enough continuous work for two more volunteers? Would training take too long to be worth the effort right now? Since Maribel learns quickly and is a good worker, would taking her off tasks to translate and supervise impede our progress? Are her friends from Wilson school? We are concentrating on getting the FB program at Wilson off the ground so can we afford to give away FBs which could be given to Wilson parents?

I told Maribel we would have to discuss the issues and make a decision.

Report for Thursday WH October 14, 2010

The warehouse opened at about 6:30PM

Attending: Tom, Olin, Maribel, Phil, Kelsey and myself.

Tom opened up since I was a few minutes late. Tom picked up a new push broom during the
week and everyone was busily sweeping away when I arrived. The floors in the workshop are
now "clean enough to eat off of". Unfortunately, after Olin's story about the
calf barn, no one wanted to try it out. The floors looks real good though.

Tom and I built shelving. We got 2 1/2 ready to assemble. I discovered that I
had not cut enough pieces for the shelves and had to cut more. I also
discovered that I had not bought quite enough wood to complete the 6 units I
had planned. Good thing I took those advanced math classes ;-)

Olin and Maribel drilled hard drives. First the chuck came off the drill press taper
and had to be reinstalled, then the drill bit broke. The drill bit wasn't really
suitable, it was just one I happened to have in my pocket, a #7 aircraft length
cobalt drill. Next week I'll bring a 1/4" HSS drill bit which should be much
less brittle. After that they did some deman.

Phil and Kelsey continued with testing and triage.
We stopped to cleanup about 8:45 and we closed the workshop at about 9:00 PM

Thanks to everyone for their hard work!

Mike
