I was just reading about this a couple months ago. It looks good, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet either. I installed chromium on my Ubuntu 10.04 based LTSP test VM, and I liked it for the 5 minutes that I used it. I use Google Chrome 90% of the time on my Windows laptop, and IE8 the other 10%. I haven't opened firefox in quite some time. ---------------------------------------- > Date: Tue, 11 May 2010 14:37:33 -0400 > From: mikecook@xxxxxxxxxxxx > To: frgeek-michiana@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [frgeek-michiana] Lightweight Ubuntu > > I know some of you are interested in a lighter distro. > > Lubuntu 10.04 < http://lubuntu.net/> is a lightweight variant of Ubuntu using > LXDE < http://lxde.org/> lightweight desktop environment. > > P II or Celeron processor. > Minimum memory required is 128 MB, 160MB recommended; Graphical installer and > live-cd require 160 MB or more. > > > It uses Openbox as it's window manager, Chromium as the web browser, Sylpheed > for email, Abiword and Gnumeric for office apps, and Aqualung and mplayer for > multimedia. > > There is a netbook boot option optimized for the smaller screens of netbooks. > > It also can use all of the Ubuntu packages including localization packages. > > I haven't tried it yet so ymmv. > > Mike > > ** This list is PUBLICLY archived. ** > PLEASE don't post personal or sensitive information unless you wish for it to > be in the public domain. > > To visit the main website for Free Geek Michiana go to > http://www.freegeekmichiana.org > > To post to the list send email to frgeek-michiana@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx > The archive is available at //www.freelists.org/archives/frgeek-michiana/ > > You may unsubscribe or change your list settings by going to the list website > at //www.freelists.org/webpage/frgeek-michiana > _________________________________________________________________ The New Busy think 9 to 5 is a cute idea.
