Useful info on the band/bandless thing, thanks. I tend to avoid seemingly objective use of "rare" as it is at best ill defined and at worst undefined ;) But, relative rarity I find interesting, noting as I often do that rarity and cachet are not synonymous. regards David ----- Original Message ----- From: "JOHN DANZA" <jdanza@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Hi David, Very nice pen! On the subject of bandless, the band was an additional cost option on all Duofolds for the first few years of manufacture. This was still the case in 1923 when the black color became available in the Duofold. I used to have a Black Chased Hard Rubber Duofold that had a cap band. Here's a not-so-great photo of it: http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/1949/lc6halfjg6.jpg. As far as scarcity, black HR Duofolds are certainly much harder to come by than RHR, but I don't think I would call them rare. I think people had had their fill of black pens by the 1920s and the orange color was a lot cooler, and the price was the same. The chased pens are certainly difficult to find, and yours is in great condition. Congrats on the nice pen! John -
