The advice you've been given so far is all good.
I should point out that the existence of the DMCMD global does not mean that FV
is running and processing it. That is, you can have a situation where the
variable exists, but nothing will run the command. All in all, it is rather
problematic.
There is an alternative in the I/A Series Tools Suite called cpShell. You can
send it commands to be executed. If it dies, you will get an operational error
that you can handle. You can also use both SENDMSG and SENDCONF. The latter is
useful to assure that your script was executed.
