I got the OpenSSH (and zlib, and prngd) from sunfreeware.com. Zlib comes in the OpenSSH package now, I suppose to make sure the recent security hole in it is patched and your OpenSSH won't be indirectly made vulnerable. This version of OpenSSH apparently compiled to use the prngd (a random-number generator), and I did not try to get around that. I was able to tunnel a DM through OpenSSH to Exceed on my PC (using the Cygwin version of OpenSSH as a client). I only had to tell Exceed not to try to establish the connection with rexec, as we normally do. Otherwise, Exceed doesn't know or care that X is being tunneled. Seemed to work fine. I plan later in the year to go permanently to this setup, in the interest of security. I'd really like to replace the r-* suite with it, but it remains to be seen whether the I/A software will have a problem with that. Corey Clingo Sr. Engineer BASF Corp. If anyone has done this please mail me your comments or advice. Get openssh from www.sunfreeware.com in Solaris package format for Solaris 2.5.1. There are a couple of other packages from the same site that must also be installed, but setup is very easy. > This implementation will be done using any of Hummingbird eXceed, > Starnet 20X-Win32 or Cygwin/XFree86 running on Windows 2000. If you enable X11 Forwarding your X servers do not need to know anything about ssh, but you will need an ssh client on the Windows side, I suggest PuTTY which is free and available at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ I am not sure about forwarding a DM through ssh, I have not tried that yet..... -- Jeremy Milum Huntsman Polymers Corporation P.O.
