Joseph, I haven't got an F/G box handy I can try now, but I haven't had problems in the past unplugging and re-plugging a Sun mouse or keyboard locally connected to on an F box. =20 If I ran into this problem I'd probably try to stop and restart the PICL daemon before I rebooted the whole workstation. # /etc/init.d/picld stop # /etc/init.d/picld start You can also print the picl tree with prtpicl or prtpicl -v for verbose. In Solaris 9 or later there is administrative control over USB, but in Solaris 8 I can't think of anything other than the above. Sun has patches on this issue, it'd be interesting to see what patch level of the USB framework your F/G Foxboro boxes are at. Current is 109896-30 for Solaris 8 I believe. Also, the post is labeled for D/F/G boxes - are you using USB on D boxes? Unless I missed something, there was no alternative solution to a reboot offered. Having to reboot has sure complicated the last 3 failures... Joseph M. Riccardi, Inc. This was recognized by Sun, but it took some time for Sun to qualify a reliable replacement. The FO USB extenders (Foxboro part number P0973AJ/AK) seem to have fixed my problems with F boxes periodically losing their kbd/mouse and having to be rebooted. I suspect this would not fix the problem of needing to reboot the box if the type of mouse or trackball is changed. The new extenders cost about the same as the old ones. The Foxboro part consists of a USB extender and a DLink 4 port USB hub. See my CAR 1007880 (and many others) for Foxboro's response to problems on the original USB Rangers. The new FO USB extenders may require QF1004695 (an updated PROM for Blade 150 and Blade 2000 workstations).
