It's realy quite a sa stoy.

We backup all of our *NIX machines that connect to the il network (which
includes all A[PW]'s), and I managed to make one of ours non bootable this
weekend.

What I did is (on a amchine with lot's of disk space_ unpack the Aanda
files for / /usr, and /var. Dlete /usr/fox from this, tar all of this to a
tape. Boot the "dead" machine inot single suer off the CD. Mount / as
/tmp/mnt, /usr as /tmp/mnt/usr, var as /tmp/mnt/var. Untar the files to
tthere.

Reboot.

Worked fine.
