List,
I wanted to post a solution we found last week that is not readily found on the
TAC support web site regarding AIM*Historian on Windows XP at v8.x.

PROBLEM: The AIM*Historian running on a Windows XP box at v.8.x is
restarted/rebooted, and real-time points that had been collecting prior to the
restart/reboot cease to collect. The points come up when you use AIMSpy to
search for them using option 913, but the status is "00000000".

SOLUTION: Check the file in d:\opt\aim\bin called restore_index.dat. This file
may be corrupt. You can open it WordPad, and you may see some strange points in
there, or you may not. In any event, if you are seeing this problem, try
deleting this file, and rebooting the AW with the instance. AIM*Historian will
re-create this file.

The file restore_index.dat stores the index numbers for the real-time points
and helps AIM*API quickly rebuild the points on a re-start. This file can get
corrupted, and if it does, random points will stop collecting on a restart. If
you delete this file and reboot the AW, AIM*Historian will re-create it and
remove any corrupt elements (hopefully). The only downside is that the points
take a little longer to start collecting as AIM*Historian rebuilds the indices.
We didn't really see much difference, maybe a few extra seconds on a 2000 point
instance, but your results may vary.

It would also be a good idea to remove any configured real-time points from the
instance that are trying to connect to non-existent blocks or parameters. We
had quite a few of those, and as part of our troubleshooting prior to finding
the actual problem, we ended up rebuilding the entire instance, which removed
all such real-time points.

Thanks,

Tim Lowell
