LinuXpert systems has planned to conduct a two days of FREE Technical
Workshop on Open Source Tools & Technologies in the month of December
2012 / January 2013.

This FREE training program is mainly for System Administrators /
Technical assistants working in

Engineering Colleges
Arts and Science Colleges
Polytechnics

We have planned to conduct the open source workshop in the following regions.

Chennai region (covering Chennai / Kanchipuram / Thiruvallur, Vellore districts)
Coimbatore region (covering Coimbatore / Erode / Thiruppur / The
Nilgiris districts)
Thirunelveli region (covering Thirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari districts)
Madurai region (covering Madurai, Dindugal, Theni, Virudhunagar,
Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai districts)
Salem region (covering Salem, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri districts)
Trichy region (covering Trichy, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Ariyalur,
Perambalur, Karur districts)
Villupuram region (covering Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Cuddalore,
Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam districts)

Topics covered in the workshop:

1. Installing any popular GNU/Linux Operating System (Fedora / Ubuntu / Mageia)
2. Software Management in Linux Operating System
3. Introduction to Various Software Applications available in Linux /
Open Source
4. Understanding the Layout of the Linux filesystem
5. Understanding the Linux Booting Process
6. Most frequently used Linux Commands
7. User and Group Management
8. File Permissions / Ownership
9. Introduction to Common System Configuration files and Log files
10. Configuring Networking and Firewalls (using iptables)
11. Setting up Web servers (Apache) / Proxy servers (Squid)
12. Setting up printers using CUPS (Common Unix Printing System)
13. File sharing between Windows / Linux operating system (using Samba)
14. Setting up a Version Control System using Subversion Edge (SVNEdge)
(version control systems demonstrates how developers collaborate in
open source development)
15. Desktop Virtualization using VirtualBox
16. Troubleshooting different types of problems in Linux Operating
system (Booting problem, Networking problem etc.)

The above listed topics will be completely hands-on in the Lab.

Benefits for the participating colleges:

A CentOS based FOSS Lab server will be setup for FREE OF COST which
can be used to implement Open Source Labs throughout the college
campus.  Colleges can choose any one of the following Linux
distribution to be loaded in the FOSS Lab Server.

1. Fedora-18 + Software Repository (once released)
2. Ubuntu 12.10 + Software Repository
3. Linux Mint 13 + Software Repository
4. Debian 6.0.4 + Software Repository
5. Mageia-2 + Software Repository
6. Mandriva 2012 + Software Repository
7. CentOS 6.3 + EPEL Software Repository
8. OpenSuSE 12.2 + Software Repository
