Runways will be NOTAMed closed at 9:30AM on Friday. Guests begin arriving at
9:30 AM, parking at Taos Mesa Brewing Company, with shuttle busses bringing
guests to Taos Aviation’s hangar. Pilots and VIPs will be allowed to park at
the airport. Security will be tight for the event. Meet and greet in the big
hangar until 10:30. Several speakers will talk about the project until about
11:30 or 12:00. A small delegation will be driven to the runway in 2 busses to
have Taos Pueblo Tribal Government bless the runway, then a ribbon cutting and
photo op. Once the ribbon is cut, dignitaries and guests will have a catered
BBQ lunch with Michael Martin Murphy as the entertainment while airport
personnel clear the closure markers, inspect the runways and lights. Once the
runways (both 4/22 and 13/31) have cleared inspection, NOTAMs will be cancelled
and both runways will be operational, probably between 12:30 and 1:30 PM. PAPIs
and REIL lights will be NOTAMed as out of service on 13/31 until they are
flight checked next week.
Thanks,
John

To all,
Reminder: At some point between now and Wednesday this week, San Bar will paint
a second coat and add the reflective material to Runway 13/31 and 4/22 (the
approach end of 4). We will not close 4/22 for the striping on 13/31, but we’ll
need to close 4/22 for a few hours to finish its striping. San Bar doesn’t know
how quickly it will go on 13/31 and when they will get to Runway 4/22 yet, so I
don’t have a specific closure time for 4/22. Just keep checking NOTAMS and I
will get an email out when we know.
Thanks,
John

Subject: Clarification: Runway 4/22 Closure
Sorry, I see I wasn’t clear about an item in the closure notification. The
painters are again scheduled to complete the second coat of paint on the
construction area known as Runway 13/31 (no closure on Runway 4/22) and the
first 700 feet of Runway 4 (2 to 3 hours of closure, but we don’t have a
specific time yet).
Thanks,
John

To all,
Due to recent rains, the contractor has had difficulty finishing the runway
striping. Monday, August 21, the painters are again scheduled to complete the
second coat of paint on Runway 13/31 (no closure) and the first 700 feet of
Runway 4 (2 to 3 hours of closure, but we don’t have a specific time yet).
While striping on Runway 13/31, we will monitor the radio for traffic as the
painters pass through the Runway 4/22 safety area, so there may be some delays
of a few minutes for takeoffs or landings on 4/22.
Thank you for your patience as we near the end of this project and completion
of the new runway.
Thank you,
John Thompson
