Be advised that the airport manager has today seeded the Taos Regional Airport
with poison pellets designed to kill prairie dogs. These pellets are highly
dangerous to people and pets, not to mention the prairie dogs, causing a slow,
agonizing death. This poison is so dangerous that one has to be licensed to
use it. Recently, Holy Cross Hospital was closed down as a hazmat threat after
employees there came in contact with a patient who had ingested it.
The seeding was done in close proximity to all hangars and the south tarmac,
creating a hazard for not only pilots and their children and pets, but the
burrowing owl population as well. Exercise extreme caution with your dogs!
This practice is unnecessary and dangerous, in addition to being cruel and
inhumane. Please contact John Thompson with your thoughts on the matter, and
let us know what you think of it on this forum as well.
