Hello Folks, A great sporting weekend, highlighted with that
Win by Leinster over their nemesis La Rochelle.
It looks like another three or four days before the weather settles down to
a warmer , rain free period.
There were 11 eager participants for today's Dublin tech club .
Things started off with a great discussion on how people (visually impaired
) were handled and treated from an accessible point of view in a hospital
setting.
This should not be rocket science, it should be a large part of a nurses
training that they are instructed on how to deal with VIP'S.
Training should be given to all hospital personnel on how to deal and
converse with all sort of disabilities.
Marti, gets messages from her Dropbox app. That it is full up and she must
buy more storage space.
Marty as all members of the Fighting Blindess choir get weekly choir
songs from their conductor into their Dropbox accounts.
Mary who is also a longtime member of the Visionaries choir knew how to
handle her problem.
It seems that Marti is downloading multiple times the choir notes and
music, and must refresh and download again, rather than what she is doing,
Mary has promised to assist Marti next time and rectify her problems.
Our man from Kildare wanted to know if anybody knew anything about an app,
titled WALK AROUND?
Albert thought this was part of the GOOD MAPS EXPLORE APP.
This is good for finding your way around a new hotel your visiting for
instance.
Mary wanted to know how visually impaired persons can get the most help from
AI robots.
Adrian said that one should download the Chat GPT APP, from the app store.
When downloaded it works a little like WHATS APP. .
It's called Chatbox when in use. ,
One can ask the Robot to tell them a joke, write some notes and so on.
This I suspect will be a learning curve for all blind and vision impaired
people over the next few years, to make as much use of this new technology
to assist them in carrying out daily functions.
Mary was applying to get a VAT refund for her purchase of the latest Iphone
model, plus a refund for the Apple airpods.
She got a letter from Revenue, that she must send in a stamped invoice,
saying paid with thanks for her purchases.
Plus a letter from her optomologist showing them that she was a registered
blind person.
Most of us thought that the person that she was dealing with was perhaps
very knew, and did not realise that Mary was a registered blind person for
a good many years.
Albert and Michael promised to look for the contact name and phone number
for the head accessible officer.
Eamonn had a rather complicated question regarding his sky plus box, it's
not connected to his broadband and Michael thought he needed a small gadget
to connect to his wifi.
Michael suggested that Eamonn should connect with the sky accessability
officer.
A discussion developed around streaming and using different apps for
podcasts.
Eamonn uses Downcast and Bert uses Overcast.
Mary wanted to know if one can delete a downloaded podcast.
Nobody was sure, as most people just stream their podcasts.
Tom wanted to know more about Paul's use of his Sony headset when
listening to tevision programmes.
Paul has a Sony headset, when not in use it is charging on a dongle at the
back of his TV.
When charged , Paul puts the headset on and there are two wheel volume
controls, one to increase volume and one to turn off the sound and save the
battery.
Paul can listen at whatever sound volume he is comfortable with , without
disturbing his wife who listens at her preferred volume level.
Even when the tv is switched off completely, Paul can listen on his headset
while in bed.
That's all folks
Hopefully good spring days will appear by Thursday.
Paul
