Families & Friends of 100 Centre St. meeting
Sunday, November 13, 2016
Next Meeting: Sunday, January 8, 2017, 10:00 a.m.

Susan Dubin (minutes), Nina Rosenberg, Sande Young, Richard Segan, Peter
Miller, via teleconference: Nina Garfinkle, Ken Berniker, Residents Council:
Linda Alloy, CCB Admin: Rhonda Glyman.
1. Residents’ Council (RC) report and discussion: Linda Alloy covered a range
of topics: the new council members and officers; the new system for tracking
resident suggestions; building security and post-election anxieties; the
definition of independent living; the problem of walkers in the dining room;
management issues involving performers and speakers; laundry room odors due to
the use of scented detergents; having the welcoming committee develop a buddy
system.
Two matters received extended attention. Several present reported on
anxieties and concerns not just on the part of residents but non-white support
staff as well. Discussion led to a planning group for a
diversity-in-our-community/ care-giver appreciation program that Richard and
both Ninas agreed to be on with suggested staff as well.
In addition, the importance and process for welcoming new residents,
also a part of Rhonda’s report, was discussed further, with two handouts
detailing planning and suggestions. The matter is complicated by the recent
passing of the Residents’ Committee chair, but both the RC and administration
have it one their agendas for further development.
2. Nina Rosenberg reported briefly on her research project with family members
who are serving as health care advocates for their family at 100 Centre — she
will post an update to the F&F list in the near future.
3. Rhonda/Admin Report:
• Center Communities of Brookline (CCB) has been given the Brookline Emergency
Preparedness Appreciation Award.
• Memorial services take place on the first Friday of the month, starting at
4:00 PM, and give residents a chance to remember a loved one who has passed
away recently.
• Handouts (available with the version of these minutes on the F&F web site at
http://groupspaces.com/FamiliesandFriendsof100Centre under the “Additional ;
Materials”):

* The CCB Refrigerator Basics – a laminated list of basic info for all new

* New (11/16) Fire Alarm policies — note the changes, that residents can
now stay in their rooms until there are further instructions; there is now a
final “All Clear” announcement.
4. Sunday programming – Sande will coordinate an on-going (quarterly?) pizza
party-type event with Joyce Jozwicki.
5. Other business: We need someone to serve as F&F treasurer. Contact Richard
or Peter for details.

Families and Friends of 100 Centre St., Brookline, supports
the quality of life of residents living there. We work with
residents and the administration on developing programs and
activities that encourage the residents' children and other
family members to interact, get involved in the social life
of the building, and support each other with the challenges
of aging.
