Quality of Indian research falling, group finds K.C. Krishnadas (07/10/2006 10:11 AM EDT) URL: http://www.eetimes.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=190301342 BANGALORE, India â India's share of high quality scientific research is declining sharply as rivals like China make R&D progress, a panel said. As a result, new initiatives are needed to revitalize scientific research here, a scientific advisory council to the Prime Minister said Saturday (July 8). Investment in science should be increased and the research output of universities and research institutes expanded, the council said. Making science careers more attractive to young people is a priority along with greater incentives for pursuing a career in scientific research, the council said. Of particular concern are excessive bureaucratic and political interference at universities and scientific institutions, said council chairman C.N.R. Rao, who will convene a conference on science teaching and research, the government said in a statement. Regards, Syed SAIF Abrar Philips Towers, # 1, Murphy Road, Ulsoor, Bangalore-8, INDIA
