Hi, all,
Just a quick announcement that might be of interest to members of Eyes-Free
Pittsburgh.
Tomorrow: Tuesday May 24 1:00 - 2:30 pm
Carnegie Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped

Our friends at Carnegie Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped have
invited interested individuals to join them at the next meeting of the
Library's Advocacy and Advisory Group, which is scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00
pm. It's short notice, indeed, but the Library received late word that guest
speakers Cheiko Asakawa and Cole Gleason from CMU will be at the meeting.
The pair are part of a team working on NavCog, an iOS app that has been
highlighted in the

and Forbes

You can see an example of the app in Ms. Asakawa's TED Talk video, "How New
Technology Helps Blind People Explore the
World"<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-mQIWnO3Ag>. The app aims to support
indoor and outdoor navigation of blind pedestrians by providing turn-by-turn
directions and additional information. Currently it is only deployed for
portions of the CMU campus, but the team is looking to test it in other areas
around Pittsburgh that are more useful. The meeting offers a chance for you to
learn about the app and to offer ideas to the developers.
Other topics on the agenda include:
* LBPH's new 3D Printer-show & tell
* Taking a look at the accessibility features of Carnegie Library of
Pittsburgh's new website
* Update on BEARDED and their work with the Library's Tech Team
* Library Health programming
* Upcoming LBPH & CLP events
I hope some of you can make it; if so, say hello to all of our library friends
for us!
Thanks,
Tracey
