Well, i'd create the SRV records to do a test on one of the child domains, and
try to log on the users as user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
<mailto:user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> (as long as this server on the child
domain is hosting the IM service) to see it it works. If I never made it work
on the domain itself, what are the odds of making it work in the top-level
one?? ;)

If the IM service is hosted on the top-level domain, I'd create the SRV record
on the child domain pointing to the respective server on the enterprise domain.

Thanks Tiago,

As part of the procedure given by Microsoft, I had created my SRV record. But I
think I must give more details to you:

My IM Service is at my top level domain myenterprise.com and I created the SRV
record in the DNS servers of myenterprise.com only. I also want the users of
some child domains child1.myenterprise.com and child2.myenterprise.com to use
the IM Service too. I have also enable Instant Messenger in Active
Directory/Exchange Tasks for these users. Now, my questions are: Is it
necessary to configure SRV records in DNS servers of the child domains too? How
could I try logging in these child domains user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
or user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx? I will
appreciate some other help you give me. Thanks in advance.

Last time i setup the IM service, there were two details:

Create the SRV record in your internal DNS zone for the _rvp protocol on port
80 pointing to the machine that is running IM;

If everything else fails, try logging in as user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I rarely made it work just by typing user@xxxxxxxxxx , even if DNS was set up
correctly.

Dear colleges,

I'm trying to use Exchange 2k Instant Messaging in my E2k organization. I have
followed the procedure published in KB Q266643 but every time I try to logon on
the IM Server I receive the following message:

"Signing in to Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging failed because the password
is incorrect or the sign-in name does not exist. Check your sign-in name and
password and try again."

I have worked a lot around it without finding a solution. I searched the
Microsoft Knowledge Base; I uninstalled and then reinstalled the Instant
Messaging Server, but Nothing.

Can somebody help me about it?

Thanks In Advance:

Lic. Alexey Fernandez Suarez

Note: I have a native Exchange 2k organization over Windows 2000 Advanced
Server with Active Directory in native mode.
