If you haven't tried this, it may improve performance. In the hosts.sam file make a entry for the exchange server. Just put the ip address and a couple of spaces and then the host name of the exchange box. The first place that is checked for name resolution is the hosts file. After you've inserted the entry rename the hosts.sam file to hosts As far as being inside the outlook application it may help to disable windows messenger integration with outlook xp.
