I have just inherited an Exchange 2000 server with a problem! Basically
it is creating log files at an alarming rate and eventually the disk
fills up and Exchange stops.

The priv1 database and .stm file are 4.7gb and 1.8 gb respectively.

I have reinstalled Exchange and service pack 3. At that stage there were
few log files. After about an hour there were 150 log files , i.e about
750mb...and it continues to grow.

There doesn't seem to be any anti-virus email monitor, although at some
stage they did have a product from GFI installed.

This use to occur intermittantly and I had created a 500mb buffer file
which they could delete, start Exchange again and perform a backup. This
morning when it first occurred we ran the backup but Exchange generate
log files during the backup, so Exchange fell over and the backup fail.
There was no spare space so I copied about half of the older log files
to another disk (so I could put them back if necessary) This time the
backup ran and everyting seemed ok (i.e few log files) but then it went
mad as described above!

Help

TIA

Andy
