Last night before the meeting started, I was given two more telescopes that
have been donated to EVAC, that brings the total to 5, possibly 6. I
probably won't be putting these into storage until after the Messier
marathon, so it will be a little easier for Claude to pull out the stuff he
needs for this weekend.
At what point do we {or I} stop accepting cheap, or worn out telescopes?
The last three scopes that I have received, two they had bought for their
kids for Christmas, they are so cheaply made, that they can't even be
focused on the moon, and one had been in a closet in his cabin for 8 years,
w/ an old .965 focuser, and parts are missing. On this 6 Inch Orion from
last night, the eq mount is loose, and I can find any way of tightening it
down. A few years ago someone suggested that I get pictures of the scope
and a detailed description first before I waste my time and gas to get
something that is either cheaply made, or is worn out. I think I will
start doing that, so we don't get worn out scopes or cheaply made scopes
that nobody wants. Please give me your thoughts and ideas on this.
Thanx, David
