Aviva described a very dyslexic pupil asked to do 3 modules altogether and a
regular project.
Here are my 2 cents on the subject.
I also have a severely dyslexic Native Speaker in my class...doing 5 point
sorry, Modules, EF and G, next summer...all 3 of them. She is, of course, doing
the test orally and despite her attention deficit and many other problems, I
think she can do it all at once. However, this is individual and the pupil you
described might not be able to. I don't know.
About the project...last year the above student I just described did a written
project, but with a lot of extra help as she neither reads nor writes on her
own. I'm not sure today how much her Mom did and how much she did although I
know she was most involved in the work and knew her material...it was a UNICEF
project. This year I decided to go with her idea of making a documentary film
rather than do the "class project". It wasn't easy..she had to come up with
topic, plan, design , etc. It was based on interviews with young people her age
on the Israeli-Palestinian situation..very interesting. She spent many hours
getting it off the ground and finished. A lot of hard work. Video-taping a
project isn't for everyone either...I'm just giving it as an alternative to the
norm. This pupil should discuss the issue in detail with her English teacher,
perhaps together with a parent...and try to find together a creative solution.
Hope this helps!
Chag sameach!
Laurie
