Hi All, Talila questioned the lack of private schools in Israel. There are many semi-private schools which are funded both by the Ministry and parents (and often another "organization"). These are special boarding schools or city schools with a special direction. (environmental education, the arts, etc.) The costs of these schools are high. Many schools become, in my terms "partially private" due to the vast amounts of money parents pay for "gray education" in more affluent communities/neighborhoods. It may be illegal but it's happening all around us. Native Speakers classes were on the line in the past year and all sorts of "solutions" were found to keep most of them going. Of course, schools in lower socio-economic areas don't have all the "extras" enjoyed by those in the above categories. A truly "private school" is very expensive and unaffordable for most. I was once told the cost of tuition at The American School. Most could not manage such fees. So, even if many of us, as parents might want to give our children a private education, it's just not realistic. Instead, we pay for after-school activities: music and art lessons, sports classes, etc. That's what I did. If I had the chance to do it all over again (and the finances!), I think I'd choose home schooling! So if I may rephrase Robert Frost... Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubt I shall ever go back. Laurie
