[etni] cursive -- US reality check

When I was in elementary school in the 1970s in upstate NY, cursive script
was taught in third grade... it was absolutely a standard and expected part
of our education.
It seems to me that any dimunition in the role of cursive comes from
computer use and a changing visual standard.
