On a completely new note... In my 7th grade gifted class, the students read a text about a big, hairy spider (from Links). One of the kids wanted to share something that he'd learned about spiders and he started telling the class in Hebrew. In an effort to quiet him down, I told him that he had to either tell us in English or not tell us at all. This kid really wanted to give us the information that he'd learned, so he started over, in English, and it went like this: "The black lady-that-her-husband-died spider..." He needs a bit of vocabulary enrichment and he needs to work on relative pronouns (though I don't know many 7th graders who know the word "whose"), but I thought it was pretty cute!
