NATIONAL ENGLISH DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2003
Dear English teachers, educators and all those who are interested in
debating,
You are cordially invited the National English Debating Championship which
will take place on Thursday, November 27, from 4.00 to about 9.00 pm., at
the Aleh School of Sciences, 33, Chaim Moshe Shapira Street, Lod, (the same
venue as last year). From the airport junction follow road no. 40 to
Ginnaton Junction. Exit to the right and then first left is Shapira (Tichon
Le Madayim
The event has particular importance, as it will be one of the criteria for
choosing the Israel National team to represent us in the World Schools
Debating Championships, in Germany in February, 2004. There will be as many
as 50 participants in our National Competition, and some 10 to 15 of the
more experienced of them will be competing for one of the four places in our
Worlds team.
Tentative Timetable
4.00 Registration; allocation of teams and sides, rooms and
judges
4.30 First Debate – Unprepared motion; half-hour preparation
time
Judges briefing
5.00 First Debate begins
6.00 Break. Allocation of teams, sides and judges for second debate
6.30 Second Debate begins – Prepared motion: “This House Believes
the United Nations has Failed”
7.30 Break. Announcement of 8 finalists and sides for final
debate (unprepared) – half-hour preparation time
8.00 Final Debate begins (all judges will judge)
9.00 Anticipated finishing time
A private bus will be leaving Binyanei Ha’Ooma for Lod at 3.00 pm. and
returning to Jerusalem after the competition (no charge). All debaters and
judges (and supporters if there is room) are welcome to join us on the bus.
